Omega 3-edit.jpg

There are a number of things that cells require for optimum health and one of them is omega-3’s. Omega-3 fatty acids perform vital cellular functions that impact our skin health, including transporting nutrients into the cells and wastes out of them, helping the cells to retain moisture, promoting cell turnover and also preventing the free radical and oxidative damage that causes skin to age.

5 things to consider when choosing an Omega-3 supplement:

1. Taste & Smell

You need to ask yourself, ‘would you eat a piece of smelly fish?’ Of course you wouldn’t! Taste and smell are really good indicators of freshness and quality.

2. Purity

This can be a tricky one if you are purchasing your omega-3 without professional advice. Ensure that the fish oil comes from a species that lives in clean, healthy waters and consider how the oil is manufactured and processed. We want to make sure everything has been done to eliminate environmental contaminants such as heavy metals like mercury and lead.

3. Potency

Are you taking the right amount of omega-3?  The daily amount we recommend is based on client skin type and condition, and also on the omega-3’s EPA and DHA per serving (which you can find on the packaging).

4. EPA to DHA Ratio

This is one of the most important things to consider when it comes to choosing your omega-3. Generally, the EPA has stronger anti-inflammatory benefits, however it is worth noting that both fats are very important. It’s up to you to check these ratios, as all brands out on the market will be different.

5. Sustainability

Sourcing species from well-managed fisheries 🐟 helps to ensure that the fishing is in line with global oceanic health and that the fish used is of high quality.
